Organ Donation = Gift of Life, by Mr. Dimitris Stratoulis

On Wednesday, February 12th , 2020, students and teachers of Ekpedeftiria Bouga had the opportunity to listen to  Mr Dimitris Stratoulis’ speech and speeches of other doctors-nephrologists on organ donation. Students of the 4th High School of Kalamata were also present at the speech.

Mr. Yannis Boletis – Professor of Pathology-Nephrology at the  University of Athens Medical School, Director of the  Nephrology and Kidney Transplant Clinic  of the Laiko  Hospital, President of the Onassis Cardiovascular Center – and Mrs.Eleni Kapsia – Nephrologist at the  Nephrology and Kidney Transplant Clinic  at the Laiko Hospital of Athens -all  health experts that  informed us about organ donation. They analyzed statistics in which unfortunately our country comes  last in ,both in being informed and in having a  positive attitude towards organ donation, when in other European countries, such as Spain and Portugal, the percentage of people who refuse organ donation is extremely low. They also discussed ways in which one can become an organ donor, while explaining the conditions under which a transplant can be performed and considered successful.

Mr. Dimitris Stratoulis then shared his experience of the two transplants he underwent, while also referring to the altruistic perspectives of the issue. He stressed the importance of  life,   that we should  face every difficulty  with courage and without giving up.We should see every obstacle as an experience, that ultimately gives us more strength to continue on this journey of life. As he said……. “Because life is beautiful !”
